3 Biggest Makeup Myths

I honestly don’t believe that anyone is really “bad” at makeup. I also don’t need that anyone “needs” makeup. What I do believe is that you need to have the right philosophy to avoid having bad makeup. Whenever I see someone who can’t do makeup, I realize that they generally follow certain beliefs that make makeup useless.

#1: Makeup Hides

You can’t really hide anything with makeup. I always see people boast that makeup is so powerful that it can disguise everything on your face but that’s usually just for pictures and bathroom mirrors. In real life, light will fall on your face and reveal that unsightly bump you’re trying to hide. This is not to say that your scars and facial flaws cannot be alleviated with the help of a good foundation or concealer, but nothing is actually hidden.

Once makeup becomes about hiding the parts of your face that you do not like, you become addicted to piling it on and on especially on your worst days. This just leads to a masked, cake-face. Try to think of seeking instead of hiding. You want to lead people’s eyes to the best parts of your face (and I know there are many).

Makeup is really like a neon arrow saying “hey look here!” rather than a bandaid covering up a blemish. Lip colors that suit you, highlighter and eyeliner are used to bring eyes to the parts of your face that you favor. Applying makeup with this mindset always makes you happier in the morning, too, so you’re focusing on your good parts and not the things you resent about your (probably perfect) face.

#2: Some People Need Makeup

I really hate this one. There are always people who are going to hate others for wearing makeup and they always claim that some people are just plain ugly without makeup. Refer to Myth #1. Without makeup, no one is going to suddenly have a haggard face. Most people just look tired or younger without makeup. I’ve never seen anyone that’s transformed into another person.

Even with contour, the face you were given at birth is pretty much the face that you will reveal to the world every day. You only know yourself through pictures and the bathroom mirror in certain lighting, so maybe you are actually shocked when you take of your Kardashian contour – but they human eye is often more clever. No one is going to think you are hideous without makeup. They might ask if you’re sleepier, but sleepy is cute. Have you ever seen a sleeping puppy or kitten? Totally adorbs! Don’t worry about it.

#3: Wearing Makeup Means You’re Vain

Let’s be honest. Almost everyone is concerned to a degree about thier appearance. It is not really wise to say that just because someone is intervening with what nature gave them is actually more concerned or vain. I think most people who wear makeup actually find application fun and colors interesting.

It’s horrible to assume that just because someone wears a crop top it means that they think they have the worst body ever and they are self-conscious, right? It’s like that with makeup. Just because someone wears makeup to show off the parts of their face they like or to experiment it doesn’t mean they are robots that are obsessed with physical appearance. It just means that they, um, like makeup. That’s all!

Ranking of City Colors lip Glosses

City Color’s new line of lip gloss contains argan oil to highly moisturize and add a color to your lips.  In mu opinion city color has the best quality makeup for the price.  Not only are their lip glosses amazing, they sell the only lipstick I wear.

1. Class Flirt

This was my favorite of the colors.  It created a nice pink color on the lips while also adding a little sparkle.  It reminded me of something Taylor Swift would wear on a sunny spring day.

2. Prom Queen

This one was a similar color to Class Flirt, but a little deeper.  The shine was a little less intense, but enough to make a noticeable impression.

3. Wild Child

If you want to wear red lips and want some shine, you should buy this.  It creates a nice color, but it is not overpowering and lasts the night.

4. Girl Next Door

This lip gloss is a matte base.  The color has a little bit a shimmer that adds a little style to the gloss.

5. Queen B

This color is perfect for any night out, rather it be going to a little bar or a club in New York City.

6. Trailblazer

I’ve never been one to be adventurous when it comes to makeup, but this color was very interesting and perfect for special events.

Halloween Makeup Ideas

I hope you guys like tutorials because I just figured out this week how to add them to my blog posts.  One thing I wish I was really good at was makeup but sadly I’m proud I finally figured out the right color foundation for my skin tone.  Everyday I think makeup is a way in enhance your look and not over power it.  On Halloween it is the complete opposite, on Halloween makeup can be your complete look.  If I could do it my dream Halloween costume would be wearing a vintage 1800 dress with skull makeup.

Day of the Dead Sugar Skulls

Day of the dead also known as All Saints Day is a celebrated by Mexico as well as South and Central America.  It is a celebration that goes on from November 1st and 2nd and it is a way to honor people who have passed.  Different colors represent different things.  Pink represents joy, red is the symbol of sacrifice, purple means suffering, white means hope, and orange means a new day.

Zombie

For a person who can barley watch Greys Anatomy surreys this photo gets really gross to look at yet still has me looking for how that is fake.  With the walking dead becoming more and more popular I see Zombie costumes being a big deal this year.  Also in this picture I notice is the colored contacts which is always an easy add on to a costume.

Elphaba

This is a costume which I fell is very underdone.  Yes there are billions of witches every year but no one ever dresses up as the wicked witch herself.  With the right makeup all you need is a black dress and a hat and you have a great costume that no one else you run into will have.

Vampire

It seems like after Twilight the gory fanged vampire has gone away and now the vampire looks like a high fashion model and you have Hollywood to thank for that.  This might possible be the easiest of all the makeup looks to achieve because its working with light tones for your face and dark tones for your eyes and lips.  Even with the right color of dark lipstick and a smoky eye you have a simply perfect

Emily From the Corpse Bride

How cool is this makeup? Well maybe washing it off isn’t too much fun but I find this costume so cool and unique.  In this makeup look the areas to focus are on the lip, eyes and eyebrows.  For the lip color I would look for a shiny bubblegum pink color.  For the eyes I would get a dark blue eyeliner pencil and fade it into a smoky eye.  For the eye brows go bold but not a Cara Delevingne bold a skinny bold eyebrow will look the best.

Skulls

I LOVE SKULLS.  Honestly the most underrated Halloween costume but you need a lot of skill to get a skull to come out as good as this.  If anyone reading this and is good a doing skulls you should honestly go into business doing skulls for $20 because you could get enough money to pay for all your Christmas gifts and still have time to have a great Halloween.

Pop Art Makeup

I have never seem this makeup before but I’m obsessed with it.  I looked into what to wear with this costume and in my opinion what looks best is wearing clothing that is 50’s inspired.  Think circle skirts with a poodle on them.  The one I saw that I really like looked a lot like a typical housewife seen in a old sitcom. It seems with this costume that working with the shapes in your face and chest will make this makeup look the best.

Beauty

2. EOS Blue Berry Acai

Winter would not be complete without a great Chapstick.  But why not start protecting your lips early from those harsh winds.  This Chapstick is the best and is not that expensive I got mine for a dollar from drugstore.com

3. POP- Party pop crayon

I got this lip gloss from a Ispy bag a few months ago.  But it wasn’t until this month that I started using it.  I have to say it is the best lip gloss I have ever used.  The colors are great and they last all day.  And I know literally every product says that but this truly does.  I left for school at 7 in the morning and was still showing when I got back from work at 9.

Miscellaneous

4. Candy Corn M&M’s

Best Halloween candy, I have to say.  I think you can tell I like these.  I usually don’t like white chocolate but the white chocolate used in these “candy Corn” is so good.
